Suspect in Erika Álvarez Murder Arrested

Buenos Aires, January 17 -- The alleged murderer of Erika Antonella Álvarez, who was found murdered in a Tucumán landfill on January 8, was arrested in Buenos Aires in the last few hours following an operation carried out by Federal Police officers in the Buenos Aires district of Pilar. Police sources revealed to the Argentine News Agency that the detainee was identified as Felipe Sosa, a 50-year-old private security businessman, former Argentine Army infantry lieutenant, and a member of the French Foreign Legion. The suspect, who resides in the Tucumán city of Yerba Buena, was arrested in the Buenos Aires locality of Fátima, in the Pilar district, by personnel from the Federal Police's Division on Fugitive Search. According to the Tucumán Police, in charge of the investigation, the victim and the murderer knew each other beforehand, to the point that they had met in different places in that province. Although the provincial force did not give details of the motives that may have led Sosa to kill Álvarez (25 years old), it was able to confirm that they knew each other and that the suspect fled the province after committing the crime. Likewise, an ex-partner of the detainee would also be investigated for the fact, as witnesses indicated that she was jealous of Erika, because being younger, she attracted the attention of her boyfriend at several meetings where she was also present. The Tucumán Police, as soon as it noticed that Sosa had fled to Buenos Aires, alerted the Federal Police's Fugitive Search Division, although it did not give details of why he was Álvarez's murderer. Detectives from that area were appointed by the Unique Federal Recapture Command of Evaded (CUFRE), dependent on the Ministry of National Security, and was requested by the prosecutor of the Homicide Unit. Erika was found murdered on January 8 in a landfill in the Manantial Sur neighborhood of the Tucumán capital, by two women who were cleaning and reported to the police after discovering a waste bag with a body inside. The preliminary autopsy report confirmed that she died from a severe craniofacial trauma with cervical dislocation, with the cause of death being blunt force blows to the head and face, in addition to a lethal injury to the neck vertebrae, which shows the extreme violence of the attack before her body was discarded. The investigators were struck by the way the body was tied up and the use of military-type knots used for this purpose. The Tucumán police carried out a raid on a home linked to the fugitive, where his ex-partner was, and she stated that Sosa had left Yerba Buena for the capital of that province or had directly fled to Buenos Aires on an orange and black TKM motorcycle. During the raid, officers seized a receipt for the sale of that vehicle, which only included the date of acquisition and the signature and name of a woman who would have received a cash sum of 4 million pesos. Since it is an expensive motorcycle, it was established that in San Miguel de Tucumán there is only one official dealer for the brand, and the woman who signed the receipt is administrative staff for said firm. Officers established that the fugitive would have paid in part with a used motorcycle of the same brand from his ownership and cash, in exchange for the 1290S model KTM motorcycle. With all that data - also the license plate - the federal police issued an alert and it was thus that when consulting with the Municipality of Pilar, it emerged through the Digital Ring that that motorcycle entered the district on January 13 at 11:51. There it was determined that in a Private Neighborhood of Pilar, a brother of the fugitive would reside, so the officers headed there. With this information, an exhaustive search was carried out that bore fruit when the detectives observed the motorcycle the fugitive was moving around in the gardens of a hotel called "Hotel Green", in the locality of Fátima, so a discreet surveillance was implemented. As time went by, a man with similar characteristics to the fugitive was seen trying to leave the hotel, so immediately he was apprehended with the minimum and necessary force. After confirming his identity, he was transferred to the Madariaga Federal Police prison until he is extradited to Tucumán, while at the same time the motorcycle with which he fled the northern province, his mobile phone, and clothing were seized. Profile of the suspect: Sosa, who is a private security businessman, graduated from the National Military College in 1998 with the rank of infantry second lieutenant and was discharged in 2003 with the rank of lieutenant, with subsequent experience in operations of the French Republic's Foreign Legion.
